Great event! Everyone had a great time at my table, and I saw more than a few misty eyes during the performances.

"This annual event ... is a perfect opportunity to highlight all the wonderful ways the women of Yolo County have contributed to and shaped our county. Without them, where would we be?"

Annual Celebration

We are excited to announce our 2023 celebration honoring Women’s History Month at the Gibson House grounds on March 18, 2023, from 11am to 1pm.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories,” recognizing women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, and more. The timely theme honors women in every community who have devoted their lives and talents to producing art, pursuing truth, and reflecting the human condition decade after decade.

Please join us to hear Winters residents Gloria Lopez, author of An American Paella, a compilation of Spanish immigrant stories, who will speak about her experience as an author, historian, and curator of local history, and Corinne Martinez, upon whose family some of the stories are based, who will read excerpts from the book.

As always, our Yolo County Library and Archives will participate, as will the Woodland Public Library and UC Davis Library Special Collections.

Please register for the celebration on eventbrite

512 Gibson Rd, Woodland

Admission: $20

Small tasting portions of paella, tapas, and tortillas española will be served.

Part of the mission of the Yolo County Women’s History Month Committee is to raise funds for our local libraries and women’s organizations. We gratefully accept any donations or sponsorships that you are willing to provide.

We look forward to seeing everyone on March 18th!

It is with regret that the WHM luncheon scheduled for March 2021, has been CANCELLED due to precautions concerning the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).  We are hoping that we will all be able to gather in celebration in March, 2022!  For more information about the Coronavirus, please visit Yolo County Health & Human Services.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Gloria M. Lopez published AN AMERICAN PAELLA: Becoming American While Staying Spanish: A Century of Memories in Winters, California and produced a documentary of the same name in 2007 after interviewing over 80 people in Winters.  The stories are based on memories, experiences and tales that have been passed down for almost four generations. A few of the stories are from individuals who actually were born in Spain and immigrated to the United States; many of the stories are from individuals whose parents were the immigrants; and the remaining are from those whose grandparents and great-grandparents left their homes in search of a better life for their families.  They found that better life in Winters.
