“I enjoy the luncheons because they focus on positive things. This gives me a chance to see the movers and shakers from other parts of the county. The lunches remind us of the accomplishments Yolo County women have been making over time.” John Ohlson "I thought that this year was the best so far, and I have been coming for at least ten years, or maybe longer. Everything was very well organized. The food was excellent. The speech was excellent and timely. My friends who came with me also enjoyed the event immensely. Keep doing what all of you on the committee are doing!"

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is Women’s History Month? Women's contributions to our world, our nation, our state and our local community are celebrated during Women's History Month. In every sphere of life, women play crucial economic, cultural and social roles. By joining together, we recognize the contributions of women throughout Yolo County and rededicate ourselves to creating the best possible future for all people. Why have a luncheon? Former Yolo County Supervisor Helen Thomson organized the very first Yolo County Women’s History Month Luncheon in April 1987 at the Carousel Restaurant in Woodland. The luncheon theme was “Generations of Courage, Compassion and Conviction.” About 40 people attended, including then-Davis Board of Education Trustee Janice Bridge and then-Yolo County Supervisor Betsy Marchand. It was decided at that luncheon that the experience should be repeated in March 1988, and the tradition has continued every year since. The luncheon has grown considerably over the years, with between 250 and 300 people from throughout Yolo County and the surrounding communities attending and coming together to show their support. The success of the luncheon has exceeded expectations, and planning this annual event provides an incredible sense of pride and joy to the Yolo County Women’s History Month Committee.
